James Heeley was born in Yorkshire, England and studied philosophy and brand aesthetics at King's College London before settling in Paris. His introduction to perfumery came through a 1996 meeting with Annick Goutal, after which he created his first fragrance, Figuier. All aspects of the collection, from scent creation and ingredient selection to packaging and the engraved wooden cap, are handled in-house. The fragrances are produced in France using high-quality ingredients in keeping with the traditions of classical French perfumery, and Heeley remains one of the few independent founder-owned luxury perfume houses in Europe.
